Lunches and Snacks

Burbage-22

Snacks brought in to school should be healthy in nature. This means no sweets or crisps! Suitable snacks are:

  • Fruit
  • Yoghurt Pouches
  • Plain Biscuits

We are part of the 5 a day Fruit and Vegetable scheme where Infants are provided with a free piece of fruit or vegetable daily. Please ask in the office for more information.

Free School Meals

All Infants are eligible for free school meals. We are keen to encourage all the children to have school lunches as research shows that having a good lunch helps learning and concentration. We have taster sessions where all children can try dishes from the school menu. We hope this will encourage them to eat them more regularly.

If your family is in receipt of Family Income Supplement or Supplementary Benefit, your children may be able to get free meals throughout their time at school. A supply of application forms is kept in the school office. Further details can be obtained from:

The Director of Children & Education,

If you need help, please contact our Parent Support Advisor Jill Shankland via the office.

Lunchtimes

Eating and playing together are important parts of the school day for our children. Families can choose whether to send in a packed lunch and drink to have at lunchtime or whether to have a hot meal provided by local catering provider Sue Brady Catering Ltd.

Throughout the lunchtime session the children are supervised by our Midday Supervisors, some of whom are also Teaching Assistants who bring classroom knowledge of the children to their midday break.

We are able to offer hot lunches prepared locally by Sue Brady Catering Ltd who are able to provide nutritious food that is in line with national food quality standards.

Meals consist of main course and pudding and cost £2.50 per day. Parents are now able to order and pay for a child's school meals online. Click on the link here to go to the secure website: www.suebradycatering.com.

Alternatively, forms can be collected from the table outside the office or downloaded from Sue Brady's website.  Orders can be made for one or two weeks at a time.

  • Forms must be completed and dropped in to school with payment in an envelope marked 'School Meals' to the office by the Thursday before the week in which the lunches are required
  • Cheques should be made payable to Sue Brady Catering Ltd
  • If your child is ill (or otherwise unable to attend school) you must contact Sue Brady Catering Ltd by 9am on the day in order to be credited for the meal. Telephone number 01672 519200.
  • Please remember to add your child's name and class on each day they require lunch and to tick the option required.
  • Don't forget to make a note of which days you have ordered a meal!

Water Bottles are welcome in classrooms

It is very important to drink plenty of water as this helps our brains work better. At Burbage Primary School we encourage children to bring in a named water bottle to use during the day. Only water should be drunk regularly in this way.

Children may drink squash, juice or milk at lunch time if parents wish. The school will provide water at lunchtime for all children in the Hall.
